Ratio and Proportion - Simple problems

Proportion:

1. In a parking lot, there were 560 cars. 40 of them were green. What proportion of the cars were green?

2. In a sample of 320 people surveyed, 80 people liked ready salted crisps. What proportion of the people liked ready salted crisps?

3. In a bus carrying 78 passengers, 13 were children. What proportion of the passengers were children?

4. There were 72 people in a swimming a pool. 18 of them were adults. What proportion of them were adults?

5.Out of 63 pupils in Year 5, 27 wore school jumpers. What proportion of the pupils wore school jumpers?

6. 5 pupils in Year 4 cycled to the school. If there were 30 pupils in the class, what proportion of the class cycled to school?

7. In a bag of 120 marbles, 72 were blue. What proportion of the marbles were blue?

8. 336 pupils in a school were asked whether they had any pets. 42 pupils said yes.
a) What proportion of the pupils had pets?

Out of the 42 pupils, 7 had cats. What proportion of the pupils had cats?

9. In a box of  90 chocolates, 42 had nuts in them. What proportion of the chocolates did not have nuts in them?

10. Sara has 70 soft toys. 49 of them are animal toys. What proportion of the toys are animals?

11. Jack sleeps 10 hours in a day. What proportion of the day does he sleep?

Ratio:

1. In a bag, there were 25 red and 35 green marbles. What is the ratio of red to green marbles?

2. In a box, there were 56 white and 48 black counters. What is the ratio of white to black counters?

3. In a class, there were 18 girls and 12 boys, What is the ratio of girls to boys?

4. In a survey done among children, 28 children said they liked to play in the slide and 35 children said they liked swing. What is the ratio of the children who liked slide to swing?

5. Sara had 14 watches and 21 bracelets. What is the ratio of watches to bracelets?

6. Every day, Jack spends 35 minutes doing his homework and 1 hour watching T.V. What is the ratio of the time he spends on doing homework to watching T.V?
