Timed Maths Questions

  1. Tokyo is 9 hours ahead of London. If the local time in Tokyo is 10:00 pm, what is the local time in London?

  2. The train journey from Yokohoma to Tokyo takes 2 hours 10 minutes. If a train arrives at Tokyo at 3:55 pm, what time did it depart from Yokohama? Give your answer in 24 hour format.

  3. The duration of a play is 2 hours 45 minutes. There is a 20 minutes break in between.  If the play ends at 7:05 pm, when did it start?

  4. The test starts at 10:05 am and is divided into two halves with a break in the middle. The break lasts 15 minutes. The halves are both 45 minutes each. When does the whole test end?

  5. What time is it 2 hours 25 minutes after half past 10 in the morning?

  6. One literacy lesson lasts 50 minutes. How many hours do the pupils spend doing literacy lessons if they have 4 literacy lessons per week?

  7. How many minutes are there between quarter to two in the afternoon and quarter past 3 in the afternoon?

  8. The movie starts at 6:45pm. I want to reach the cinema 10 minutes early to get a good seat. It takes a 17 minute bus ride and a 7 minute walk to reach the cinema. Bus runs every 6 minutes from the hour (eg 6:00, 6:06, 6:12…..). What is the latest bus I can get to go the cinema?

 9. It takes 10 minutes to prepare a cake, 27 minutes to bake and 15 minutes to decorate it. If Ellie finishes making a cake at 2:17pm, what time did she start preparing the cake? Remember to allow the cake to cool for 13 minutes.

 10.  Brenda goes to work 6 days a week. It takes her 45 minutes to go to work and the same time to come back home. How much time does she spend to go to and from work in a working week?

 11.  Kelly goes to a Tennis club. Each lesson is 30 minutes long plus 5 minutes to kit up.  What is the total time taken for 5 lessons?

 12.   Fulham FC and Willoughby City are two football teams. Fulham FC score goals every 7 minutes and Willoughby City scores goals every 8 minutes. If both teams play a 90 minute match, how many goals will each team score?

 13. Anna reads 1 hour and 15 minutes every day. If she spends a fifth of her reading time doing mental maths, how much time does she spend doing mental maths?

 14. If the train from London to Manchester leaves London at 18:54 and reaches Manchester at 21: 13, how long is the journey?

 15. James goes to bed at 20:45 and wakes up at 07:00. If his elder brother goes to bed at 21:15 and his sleep time is 20 minutes less than James, what time does he wake up?
